Diversity

The Diversity Group (previously Disability Group) meets approximately every two months, in member locations across Lancashire.

Initially it was agreed that it would be helpful for staff of ALLIS member institutions to be able to easily refer to appropriate disability legislation, sources of guidance, and existing examples of good practice.

The ALLIS website was identified as the most appropriate location to post relevant information, guidance, contact details and links.

At an early stage it was proposed that the remit of the group be expanded to incorporate all aspects of diversity, rather than just disability, and this was approved. Thus the aim of the group, as outlined in the ALLIS Action Plan 2004-5, is to identify and highlight good practice in library service provision and evaluation to a range of groups, communities and individuals across a range of diversity issues.

The other strands of Diversity that the Group will be looking at are: Age, Race, Gender, Faith and Sexual Orientation.
